Karen Latchana Kenney is an Indian-Irish author, editor, and curriculum developer born in Guyana and raised in Minnesota. Her debut picture book Snow Steps came out in 2024 and was a finalist in the MN Book Awards and The Pedro and Daniel Intersectionality Book Award. Snow Steps is about a little girl from Guyana who learns to brave the snowy winter of her new Minnesota home, based on the author's childhood immigration experiences. Her middle grade and young adult writing features scientific discoveries, technology, historical events, and mysteries of the natural world, including Folding Tech: Using Origami and Nature to Revolutionize Technology (Lerner), honor award winner of the Mathical Book Prize. Her new young adult nonfiction book Fascinating Fungi: Nourishers, Killers, Connectors, and Healers (Lerner) comes out in October 2025. Karen lives in Minnetonka with her family and is represented by Abigail Samoun at Red Fox Literary.
