You can Meet the Finalists of the 2026 Minnesota Book Awards on Saturday, March 21 from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the George Latimer Central Library. This event will include readings and panel discussions. Attendees can also buy finalist books and enjoy library activities. It’s free and open to the public Register here.

CONTESTS FOR FUTURE MEMBERS

The Minnesota Humanities Center is pleased to announce the launch of the Minnesota Youth Poet Laureate program, a new statewide initiative recognizing and uplifting exceptional young poets ages 13–19. 

Applications are open from February 1–28, 2026. Submit original poetry and a creative résumé through the national application platform at youthlaureate.org. The Minnesota Youth Poet Laureate will be announced in late April 2026.

Payal Doshi will be part of Red Balloon Bookshop’s Authors for Minnesota Day. Join MN authors for a day of books, community, and support for immigrant rights! If you stop by Red Balloon at 12:30pm or 2:30pm, you can also catch storytimes and readings with these authors!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO

Shannon Gibney was a featured author at Babycakes’ story time at the 2026 Minneapolis Home + Garden Show at the convention center last month.

Babycakes is a traveling bookmobile, run by Zsamé Morgan, pictured here with Gibney and her daughter, Mawe.

Thuba Nguyễn joined forces with Read With Me MN and shared stories with infants through preschoolers. The school she visted also set up a food donation shelf to support families experiencing food insecurity due to federal disruptions in our communities.
